Rebbe Nachman of Breslov (1772–1810) was one of the most influential figures in the history of Chassidut, a great-grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, founder of the Chassidic movement. Born in Medzhybizh, Ukraine, he showed signs of extraordinary spiritual depth from a young age and quickly became recognized as a unique and radiant Torah leader.
He gathered thousands of followers during his lifetime and introduced a revolutionary approach within Chassidut — transforming deep mystical teachings into practical, accessible guidance for everyday life. His teachings emphasized simplicity, heartfelt prayer, joy, and constant personal connection with Hashem.
Rebbe Nachman also became known for his profound stories and teachings, which continue to inspire millions worldwide. He famously said that when people could not grasp his teachings, he would reveal wisdom through stories that carry deep hidden meaning and spiritual insight.
In his final years, knowing his passing was near, he moved to Uman, Ukraine, where he passed away in 1810 and was buried. His resting place has since become one of the most visited kevarim in the Jewish world. Today, tens of thousands of Jews visit his holy kever every year, especially on Rosh Hashanah, when people travel from all over the world to pray, connect, and seek spiritual renewal in his merit.

What people pray for here
It is customary to send a kvittel (written prayer request) to the holy resting place of Rebbe Nachman zt"l in Uman. People from all backgrounds send kvittlach and letters throughout the year, requesting blessing, mercy, healing, livelihood, shidduchim, children, and spiritual guidance. These written prayers are placed at the kever, where many feel a deep sense of connection and spiritual openness.

Ner Tamid Initiative — dedicate an eternal light (Ner Tamid) in the merit of Rebbe Nachman zt"l for protection, blessing, and elevation of the souls of those in need. You may dedicate a Ner for a single day, a month, a year, or a full Ner Tamid (continuous eternal light) in the name of your choice. Managed under proper supervision and authorization of the kehilla and Vaad HaOhel in Uman. A full Ner Tamid dedication is $15,000, though any amount is appreciated and helps support the ongoing needs of the kever and its maintenance.
